UPDATE: There are other petitions covering similar topics, with many more votes so far. I’ve added them to the end of this post…
If you live in the US, please take a look at this petition to allow H4 visa holders (spouses etc who are wholly dependent on other visa holders, like H1’s – which companies like Microsoft benefit from) to seek employment:
It’s on the new “We the People” page on the White House site… Pretty cool, although interesting to see legalizing marijuana and acknowledging an “extra terrestrial presence engaging the human race” are considered such major priorities ![]()
Thanks!

- Allow Seriously Backlogged EB2/EB3 Beneficiaries with Their I-140 Approved to File I-485 and Apply for EAD & AP (although suggests it’s only an issue for certain countries of origin; in reality it’s anyone who’s on EB3, but certainly worse for “oversubscribed” countries).

This is something I found some years ago at Redmond while having a BBQ with a pair of Microsoft Employees’ families from Spain… in order to move with their families their spouses had to accept to be forbidden to get employment in USA and become housewives… what a waste of talent and a personal/professional debate.
Last month I was contacted by Microsoft Redmond… My wife is a children teacher… impossible to get a visa for her.

Pablo – About a year ago there was a “leaked” USCIS memo that suggested something like this (allowing H4 holders who were applying for permanent residency to work) might be possible:

It’s basically the situation I’m in as an H1 holder. Keeping fingers crossed something comes of it…

Hi Chris,
I have read this post about H4 visa. Can we together do something?
This country is full of immigrants. So, how one immigrant is allowed to work and other not. Lets do something.

Rashi – See this: http://www.reginfo.gov/public/do/eAgendaViewRule?pubId=201104&RIN=1615-AB92. Also there are a couple of petitions awaiting responses on the WhiteHouse.gov / “We The People” site (https://wwws.whitehouse.gov/petitions#!/petitions) either directly or partly related to H4′s and employment. Click “Open Petitions” and filter by Immigration. Hope this helps!
